indie Presents Symeo Radar Technology at SPS 2026

The technology company indie will present its portfolio of industrial Symeo radar solutions from November 24 to 26 at SPS 2026 in Nuremberg, Germany (Hall 7a, Booth 406). The spectrum ranges from classic distance measurement and collision avoidance in extreme environments to forward-looking applications in condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and the creation of digital twins.

Functional Safety in Harsh Environments
In industrial environments such as ports, steelworks, or bulk materials logistics, radar sensors demonstrate their strengths, as, unlike optical systems, they are completely immune to rain, fog, or heavy dust. For cranes and rail-bound transport systems, indie is demonstrating a solution for functional safety according to the EN ISO 13849 PLd standard with Symeo LPR-SAFE. This system operates with two redundant sensor pairs whose measurement results are continuously compared and validated in a fail-safe Siemens PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) via a certified function block.

Imaging Radar and Vibration Measurement
Beyond pure position detection, modern radar sensor technology opens up new possibilities for asset monitoring. With the AVR-QDM-110 evaluation kit, indie demonstrates a high-resolution, close-range MIMO imaging radar that captures machines and infrastructures in real time. Another trade fair highlight is non-contact vibration measurement: since mechanical wear or bearing damage on machines is heralded early on by minimal changes in vibration behavior, the radar provides high-precision measurement data from a distance to prevent unexpected failures through predictive maintenance.

Additional Context: MIMO Radar and FMCW Phase Evaluation
This section details radio specifications and physical principles not included in the original press release.

MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) is an advanced antenna technology that enables the transition from a simple distance meter to a high-resolution imaging radar. Instead of just measuring transit times, MIMO systems use an array of multiple transmit (TX) and receive (RX) antennas to generate a dense network of virtual antennas via software. This enables precise angular resolution in azimuth and elevation, generating detailed 3D point clouds—similar to an optical LiDAR system, but immune to optical line-of-sight blockages. For non-contact vibration measurement, FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) technology in the millimeter-wave range (often 60 GHz or 77/79 GHz) is typically used. Instead of merely looking at the signal envelope, the signal processors evaluate tiny phase shifts between the transmitted and reflected signals. This enables the detection of vibration amplitudes in the sub-millimeter to micrometer range from several meters away, eliminating the need to use physically wired piezo sensors on rotating machine parts.
